In response to the collaborative work and my research over the past few months, I have made a series of drawings, collages and models slowly working my way towards an idea for a public sculpture for the Bluecoat front courtyard. I’m keen to create a structure which sits in the centre of the courtyard space, right in front of you, when you enter from School Lane as well as when you leave the building. The structure will be a series of ‘archways’ framing the path and presenting a version of the Bluecoat building, perhaps like a resource for the space. I want each arch to respond to the structures and prints we created in the workshops in response to the space.
For the final two workshops, we all got together from Blueroom and Out of the Blue and created a series of prints based on images of the courtyard. These images were printed on fabric and used to create large-scale archways which we transported into the courtyard space. We placed the arches above the central path and explored moving through them.
